SHOWTIME KOCHI
Showtime Kochi is a musicians' collective co-founded by Loozmathai (Akhil Mathew) in 2017, aimed at giving independent artists in Kochi a platform to perform and overcome stage fright. It started as an accidental venture — a group of musicians who met at a local battle-of-bands competition decided to jam together right before World Music Day 2017, at the Street Scape hangout in the city.
What began with 10 musicians grew to 19 within months, known for surprise street jam sessions in public spots around the city, including Panampilly Nagar and Decathlon in Vytilla — open to amateur and experienced musicians alike, spanning rock, pop, rap, and metal. Word spread enough that musicians started coming in from neighbouring towns like Thrissur to join in.
The collective went on to support the city's wider independent performance scene, including backing Arbor Vitaè's open mic nights, and several artists who came up through Showtime Kochi went on to form acts of their own, including the post-rock band Chidakasha.
